City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder -- much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It's hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing -- not even a smear of blood -- to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?
This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadow hunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadow hunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadow hunters would like to know. . . .

Pro's/Con's
Con's: *is silent for 5 minutes and you can hear crickets*. No, there really isn't any con to this book for me. Not one at all. No really I mean it, just look at the Pro's:
1. Everyone has a role in this book. There are no useless characters at all! Not even once did I think ''Why are you there? You are blocking my view of the important characters!'' which I'm really happy about.
2. You do not know who you can trust and who you can't trust. The most dark sinister scary thing could turn out into the savior of your favorite character while the gentle relaxed presence of another could turn out to be the one who was trying to kill your favorite character in the first place.
3. Clary. Yes, she is a pro to me. I could feel for her when she was sad or happy or angry. I understood why she felt like that and her reactions are realistic. She's not perfect (perfect characters are annoying) and she makes mistakes but I understand why she chose to do these things even though they didn't work out. So yes, very nice main character is the 3th pro.
4. You never know what will happen. When you think one thing will happen it won't happen at all. No, what will happen is something totally unexpected, something that you couldn't have thought of ever in your whole life (okay maybe after a couple of years...). Thank you Cassandra Clare for making me be surprised by doing the most unexpected things with your story and the characters.
5. Funny (read sarcastic humor which I love).
6. Filled with action (there are no relaxed moments here, Cassandra will make it as difficult as possible for you to put that book down).
7. Mystery, lots of mystery (Even after finishing the book you still don't know everything so you will run screaming to your bookshop begging for book 2).
8. City of Bones is an awesome new world! (you will wish you could be a Shadow hunter one of these days...)
9. And last but not least: Cassandra Clare has written this story in a very awesome way (you will wish you could write like this).
10. You will scream and kick to get a DNA test done in this book (I'm not going to tell you any more then that).

Recommend it?
Have I still not convinced you? Maybe you should read point 1 through 10 and ask me again because my answer (obviously is): Yes, you do need to read this book. I have even heard from people who normally only read thrillers and even they have fallen in love with this story. So... Tell me again what are you waiting for? Come on now, choo choo. Go buy this book.
