The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.
The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war– and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.
Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.
Pro’s/Con’s
The only con Shatter Me had for me was the beginning. Like, the first five pages or something like that it was just really slow and weird but after that I started to enjoy it so it’s a really minor, tiny, itsie bitsie con.
When it comes to pro’s, Shatter Me has more than enough but it deserves it too:
The writing style is awesome. Why? One: the crossed out lines and words. It is awesome and grabbed my attention right away. I had heard about it before I had even bought the book since it made me curious and it works out just great! And it lets me think too: is it what Juliette wishes she had said? Or is it just what she is thinking? It fits the story just amazingly. Also, because Tahereh repeats some words and lines I really began to understand why Juliette doubted her sanity, I did too! I think that as a writer you must be pretty awesome if you can let even your readers doubt your main characters sanity. A big applause from me to Tahereh for her awesome writing style.
Another big pro to me is Juliette. You know what happens mostly when a character gets out form some cell and is offered food/clothes/a job/anything else and you almost scream to them ‘’Don’t do it! Don’t accept the offer!’’ and yet they always do it while thinking ‘’I don’t like you, I’m not going to help you but I will accept this gift’’? I love Juliette for the fact that she does exactly what I want her to do: say no. It made me really happy when I was reading it. At first I thought ‘’Here we go again…’’ but no, Juliette surprised me in a very pleasant way.
The last pro that I really want to say is the whole love triangle. You might have noticed that it’s kind of a trend in the YA fiction books. And sometimes it works out good and sometimes it just sucks. But with Shatter Me, it’s not a full love triangle. You have Juliette who loves a guy, this guy loves Juliette back and then there is this other guy that is also in love with Juliette but she despises him. And I love it! Juliette rocks, she is one of my favorite heroines ever!
Recommend it?
So would I recommend it? To any of you out there that loves a good dysto with a bit of very good romance in it: yes. Grab your money, run to the bookstore, buy this book and start reading. You will be happy that you listened to me, believe me.
