Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki, a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away and if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Pro's/con's
Two negative points for this book: one, the beginning. For some reason it couldn't grab me. It is exciting, you read all about the Draki and their home and stuff but yet it couldn't grab me at all.
The second thing I didn't like about this book is Jacinda. She is whiny and sometimes really annoying. She changes her mind every 30 seconds and of course she is in a difficult situation but this was just to much for me.
And now for the positive points. I am a cover junkie, I love beautiful covers and the Dutch edition has just one of the most stunning covers I have ever seen and it fits the story perfectly.
Another very big plus to me was the whole myth around the Draki. I find it very interesting and different then the stuff I have read so far about dragons (which isn't that much yet but who knows, maybe Jacinda has sparked something inside of me). The naming of the different Draki kinds (by their color), the power they have and how they can change to a human like shape is really interesting.
Next, the side characters. Each and everyone is different and has an important role to play inside this book. Some are there to add tension to the story (for example the nephews of Will) and others show us a different look at the whole life of a Draki (Tamra or Jacinda's mom).
The last positive thing I want to point out is the story. There is a lot of tension going on because of a lot of things. Will Jacinda be able to keep her Draki alive? Will she and her family be discovered by the Draki from back home? Will she and her family be discovered by the hunters? Shall Will find out that Jacinda is a Draki? How does Jacinda survive the normal teen stuff like high school?
Recommend it?
Yes I would recommend it but you shouldn't expect fireworks from this book. The love story is okay, it works and the last couple of chapters are really interesting. The side characters are great, just as good as the main ones and they have a huge part to play in this story. The whole myth surrounding the Draki, the power they have and how they can change to a human like shape is really interesting. I'm very curious about it and I hope to read more about it in the next book.
